What is
Naturopathic Medicine?
|
Naturopathic
physicians, also known as naturopathic medical doctors, are the only primary care
physicians clinically trained in natural therapies as well as traditional medicine. We are natural medicine specialists. Naturopathic
medicine is comprised of general practice physicians with an education comprising four
years of postgraduate training in the basic medical and clinical sciences, comparable to
traditional United States medical schools. Upon
graduation from medical school, naturopathic physicians receive the degree of Doctor of
Naturopathic Medicine. Graduates of
accredited schools of naturopathic medicine are eligible to apply to the North American
Board of Naturopathic Education to sit for four days of medical boards that examine
proficiency in the subject areas of naturopathic medical education. Upon passing these boards, test results are
submitted along with an application covering criteria as required by various state
licensing naturopathic medical boards for licensure within the various licensed states. State naturopathic medical boards are charged by
state legislatures to define the scope of the practice of naturopathic medicine within
that state for the purposes of regulating practitioners of medicine and maintaining the
public safety. The scope of practice
currently varies from one jurisdiction to another. For
your best medical care and the safety of the public health, please utilize the services of
a licensed naturopathic medical doctor. |

We have success
treating all manner of illness, both acute and chronic.
We attempt to provide primary care and, of course, refer patients to other
specialist for those procedures or treatments that are beyond the scope of our practice |

In practice, we
perform physical examinations when necessary and take a complete patient history. Based on our findings, we arrive at a working
diagnosis of the patients problem, and we order and perform appropriate diagnostic
studies including laboratory and radiological assessments.
Integrating all of this information, we make a diagnosis of the problem and
formulate a treatment plan that is specific to the patient, ranging from acute short-term
treatment to long-term therapeutic goals. We
encourage the active participation of each patient in their treatment by educating them in
the treatment options that are available to treat their problem. In my case, I recommend appropriate conventional
medical care options as well |
